CBD Vape Pens: The Most Common Questions About Vaping CBD

Reading time – 10 minutes

If you’ve started to think about taking CBD, then you’ve probably heard of vaping. Maybe you’ve seen people doing it on your way to work or even at the office. Vaping has become one of the most popular ways to take CBD. And there are lots of reasons why.

If you've never vaped before, you've probably got some questions about it. We’re here to answer the most frequently asked ones so you can understand the world of CBD inhale.

What Is Vaping?

This is probably the first question you asked. And with good reason. What is a vape, and why are people using it? Vaping is when you inhale a liquid that has been heated up and turned into vapour (hence the name). This process happens through a vaporizer or vape pen. Its one of the most popular methods to take CBD because it’s convenient and works fastA vape consists of a few parts:

Battery: This is just like it sounds. It’s what powers up your vaping device. The good news is that vapes typically have the type that can be charged and come with a changing device.

Atomizer: This is the heating element inside of the vaporizer. It’s what turns your liquid CBD into the vapour. It speeds up the movement of the molecules inside of the liquid you put in your vape, which produces vapour.

Mouthpiece: This is the part of your vaporizer that provides the path for the vapour to travel from the chamber to your mouth. It’s where you inhale the vapour.

Chamber: The chamber is where the material you’re vaping is held.

At Amphora, we’ve colour coded our mouthpieces to indicate which one of our CBD formulations comes in the cartridge.

ZZZ – This cartridge is specially formulated to help you relax and combat restlessness.

Peace– This formulation will give you a sense of calm and balance.

Mend  – This cartridge will help you help to release tension, aches and pains after great workout.

Inspire – If you're having trouble finding focus, this unique blend will inspire you to get productive and stretch that creative muscle.

How Does Vaping CBD Work?

There's a lot that goes on in those little pens. When you press the button, the atomizer heats the CBD vape oil or distillate and turns it into a vapour that can be inhaled. From there the vapour enters your lungs and then your bloodstream.

That’s where the CBD magic happens.

CBD interacts with a system that is naturally occurring in our body called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). It regulates how our body reacts to stressors. If we experienced pain, our ECS would kick into action to try and make us feel better. Basically, if you've ever heard of the term homeostasis – this is what it is.

While we have cannabinoids inside of our body already, external cannabinoids like CBD react with our ECS and are really helpful. While research is still trying to figure out the exact way CBD interacts with ECS, they do know that it stimulates the system and helps with homeostasis in the body.

Is Vaping CBD Safe?

You’ve probably seen some warnings in the news about vaping, but don’t let this scare you from vaping CBD. Those warnings were related to people using vape products that had unsafe elevated levels of vitamin E acetate oil. This is one reason why it’s so important to make sure you are buying quality products from a compliant and trusted brand.

CBD itself is considered to be safe and has been declared so by the World Health Organization. Vaping itself is inhaling a liquid that has been turned into a vapour. As long as you’re buying CBD vape distillate from a company that doesn’t use any harmful chemicals – it’s safe.

What Does Vaping CBD Feel Like?

CBD has lots of well-documented benefits, so how you feel when you vape CBD can depend on how it interacts with your ECS. Users often say it betters your mood, helps with pain and helps with anxiety. It’s a personalized experience. How you feel is all about your wellness.

Why Do People Choose Vaping Over Other Ways to Take CBD?

Why are people going the way of the vape? There are a lot of reasons.

Vaping CBD is fast-acting. Because it goes right into the bloodstream, you can feel the effects right away. This process is called bioavailability, which is the degree and rate CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream. Remember how we told you that the CBD vapour hits the lungs than the bloodstream? That all happens within 5 to 15 minutes. People who want to feel the effects quickly love vaping.

Users also choose vaping because of the convenience. Vaporizers have been designed to be sleek, small and can be stored in a carrying case, purse or backpack. With so many options out there, you can find the type of vaporizer that works best for your lifestyle.

CBD has moved to the mainstream, but it still comes with some stigma even though the World Health Organization said that CBD is safe. Vape pens offer a discrete experience that can be taken easily. The vapour also disappears quickly. You can order them online, so you don't feel intimidated going into a store on high street.

What is CBD?

This one's pretty crucial if you're going to vape CBD. CBD is the short form for cannabidiol. It comes from the hemp plant found in the Cannabis Sativa family and is a naturally occurring cannabinoid. We also have naturally occurring cannabinoids in our bodies. When its taken out of the plant it comes in the form of an oil and research has found that it has a lot of benefits for people who deal with inflammation, anxiety, depression and so much more.

Is CBD Oil Different Than CBD Vape Oil?

CBD oil has become a general term for CBD products. But there is a difference from the stuff you’re putting in a vape pen.

If you’re using a CBD oil directly, it will usually come in the form of a spray or a tincture that can be both sprayed in your mouth or under your tongue. It can also be put into a capsule or edibles that you can swallow. You must know that CBD oil is not the same thing as CBD vape oil or distillate. You may hear people using the term CBD oil to refer to everything so it can be confusing. Don’t put regular CBD oil in your vape. It will be an awful experience.

There are a few terms you should know the difference between when you’re looking for your CBD vape oil.

Full Spectrum: These products contain a whole bunch of great things, including cannabinoids, terpenes, antioxidants and CBD. These compounds in cannabis working together produce a better effect than just CBD alone, call the entourage effect.

Broad Spectrum: This type of CBD is similar to full-spectrum except that it has no THC. It does still keep a lot of the compounds from the plant like essential terpenes and oils and also produces the entourage effect.

CBD Isolate: This is pure CBD, without any other ingredients. It’s exactly like it sounds – isolated CBD. When the CBD is extracted, they remove all of the other elements only giving you pure CBD. The drawback is that you may not get the other benefits that the plant has to offer.

CBD Distillate: This is when you get the benefits of the whole plant in your CBD product. That’s why Amphora uses it. Besides the CBD, you also get other cannabinoids, terpenes, vitamins and fatty acids. Almost all the THC is also removed

When you use CBD oil, you take in various botanical elements – each with benefitsThey mingle with one another and may change depending on how they interact. It maximizes the benefits of CBD, which is what you want! They usually call this the entourage effect. That's why so many people typically choose a distillate or broad-spectrum product. But keep in mind the product you choose is entirely up to you.

Does Vaping CBD Get You High?

This is a common misconception about vaping CBD. It will not give you that 'fuzzy-headed' feeling that is sometimes linked with cannabis products. That’s because there has to be less than 0.2% THC in CBD products in the UK. THC is the cannabinoid with psychoactive properties. With CBD distillate, you will only find trace elements of THC.

Are There Any Side Effects?

You’ve heard all about the benefits of CBD, but nothing is perfect. Research into CBD has found significantly few side effects, and most users won't experience any. If they have, it is usually some drowsiness. Lots of research has found the side effects to be mild.

Is Vaping CBD Legal in the UK?

Legality is an important question! You don't want to be breaking any laws when you're starting to vape CBD. CBD is legal in the UK, but it has to contain less than 0.2% THC. THC is another cannabinoid found in the Cannabis Sativa plant we mentioned earlier. Its the one that has some psychoactive properties. Just make sure you’re doing your research when you’re buying.

How Do You Know What Kind of Vape to Buy?

Getting your first vape pen is exciting! Don’t be intimidated. There are so many different styles of devices that you can find something that is a perfect choice for you.

You should be sure that you’re buying your vaping device and CBD products from a brand you can trust. A little research will show you who that is.

Look for reviews of the product, whether it be on the company’s website, in blogs or magazines or on social media. See what people are saying about what they offer and how they respond to any negative feedback.

Also, check for a certificate of analysis (COA) for their CBD products. A COA means that they've had their products tested by a third-party. Also – trust your gut. If they tell you they can cure cancer or their products are ridiculously cheap, then it’s probably too good to be true.

Where Can I Buy A CBD Vape Pen?

You've done your research, and now you're ready to buy your first vape! You can buy your vape pen online or in-person. It’s really up to you.

If you’re just starting, it’s probably best to not break the bank on your new pen, but also be careful with anything that is priced really low. Amphora has a lot of different pens to choose from, and the specs are listed with each product.

It's also essential to make sure you're getting the necessary accessories like a case and charger with your vape pen so that you get the full use out of your device.

Are There Alternatives to Vaping CBD?

Vaping may not be your thing. That's okay! If you don't want to get your CBD through an inhaled product, there are still lots of other ways.

CBD Edibles and Capsules

These are a popular way of trying out CBD but take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours to feel the effects. When you swallow capsules or edibles, it passes through the digestive tract and is eventually metabolized by the liver. This means it takes a longer trip to reach the ECS.

CBD Topicals

Topicals are for a more targeted effect. These usually come in the form of creams, lotions or balms that are applied to the skin. How fast it takes depends on how well it enters your skin so it could be anywhere from 30 – 120 minutes.

CBD Tinctures

Tinctures are another popular way of taking CBD oil. Usually, people apply this under the tongue. They are absorbed easily into your bloodstream this way.

Out of all the ways to take CBD, vaping gets the most questions. Vaping is pretty new and can be intimidating. Don't let it be. Now that you've got the most common questions answered, you can start figuring out what vape pen and CBD formula is right for you.
